The news literally took my breath away. I gasped. Out loud. What can you say about this woman? She was a social phenomenon. Not exactly a role model for anyone but holy smokes did I get a lot of entertainment out of her kookyness. I am really mad at her lawyer / husband / babydaddy, Howard K. Stern. I believe that he stood idly by while Daniel and now Anna Nicole self-destructed on drugs. Also, what’s with the aerial shot of her body being unloaded at the hospital morgue. Very tacky. Leave it to South Florida to be the scene of these events. At least LA has good weather, great restaurants, and — well, it’s LAness — to counter the freakshow. Florida just has the freakshow. (I grew up there so I can say that.) I think it’s unfortunate that the media is using pictures of her that make her look weathered and sickly in a drugged out kind of way.

This one is from CNN.

I realize that she may in fact have been drugged much of the time, but why not show more flattering pictures that remind us of the ANS that we first got to know back in the 90s? Like her classic Guess stuff:

I think she deserved better than she got. BTW, (a) what’s with the personal nurse that was traveling with her, and (b) what in the world is the nurse doing while her patient is doing drugs like crazy and allegedly choking on her own vomit? Isn’t the point of having a private nurse traveling with you to protect your health on the road?! And what a road trip this was — from that dumpy island in the Bahamas to a dumpy casino in sticky hot swampy Florida. I know I am being negative, but her death has really thrown me for a loop.

In closing, let’s remember a classic ANS award show moment.

  1. Howard K. Stern has some explaining to do … evidently the methodone that killed Daniel (Anna’s son) and the drugs found in Anna’s room in Florida were from prescriptions in HIS name. Not good.

  2. I think its really sad.
How many people talked with her and knew that she was in trouble. There are numerous interviews with her looking completely spaced out and those were probably her good days. Someone should have seen this coming. Depression and drug abuse is a very dangerous combination, even worse when access is unlimited. We watch these hollywood disasters spiral down foe entertainment purposes and forget that there is a person there. We joke about celebs ending up in rehab, but those are the lucky ones. Someone cared enough to get them the help that they need.

  3. Ruth, as always, a thoughtful post. I agree. I hope that my posting this story isn’t playing into the problem. But I do think those closest to these celeb disasters need to take more active roles in the solution. In this case, Howard K. Stern — note the K — had a front row seat to the self-destruction of someone he allegedly loved. Not to mention that her son died after taking methodone prescribed to K. Stern. I think you are right though — we watch these real live soap operas / tragedies as if they are fiction. They aren’t. Anyway, did you hear the latest — ANS was putting her four month old on a diet so she’d be “sexy”? Sad.
